Notes on the Saxon implementation
This function is retained in Saxon for backwards compatibility as it is widely used in XSLT 1.0 stylesheets, however
it is simply a no-op, because the restrictions on use of node-sets that made it necessary have disappeared. The input can be any
sequence, and it is returned unchanged. This differs from some implementations of the node-set()
function which, for example, did the
equivalent of parse-xml()
if supplied with a string as input.
